Norbert A. Roesemeier, 85, of Gilman, IL, formerly of Bloomington, passed away at 3:59 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 at Provina St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL.
He was born May 11, 1925 in Red Bud, IL, son of Otto and Elsa Stellhorn Roesemeier. He married Elizabeth Horine in December of 1950 in Bloomington. She preceded him in death on July 1, 2005 in Kankakee, IL. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harry Roesemeier.
Surviving are one son, Guy (Cheryl) Roesemeier of Kankakee, IL; and one daughter, Debra Taylor of Gilman, IL; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Donald Roesemeier of Waterloo, IL.
He was a United States WWII Navy Veteran, honorably discharged as Seaman Second Class in 1944. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Gilman, IL.
Norbert was a high school History teacher for 36 years and also taught as a professor for some college courses, retiring in 1985. He later worked as a driver for BreMenn Township Senior Service for 10 years. He was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Gilman, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. The Rev. Gary Fairchild will officiate. Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.
