Ming-Gon John Lian, 68, of Bloomington passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 8:35 p.m. at his home. He was born December 15, 1949 in Taiwan, the son of I-Ping and Kuanghua Lin Lian. He married Ning-Hsin Chou. She preceded him in death in 2006.
Ming-Gon was a professor of special education at Illinois State University for many years. He also served as a professor at Hong Kong University, where he was director of the Center for the Advancement of Special Education. Over his career, he trained nearly 40 doctoral students. He was active in the local Chinese community, and was a member of the Holy Light Chinese Church in Bloomington. Ming-Gon also loved the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two children, Kuo-Hsin Lian of Bloomington; and Kuo-Chiang (Melissa) Lian of Honolulu, Hawaii; a granddaughter, Penelope Lian; a brother, Ming-Wei George Lian of Midland, Texas; and a sister; Ming-Ling Linda Lian of Taiwan.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 7th at 11 a.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
