Mike Herrin

Mike was born June 5, 1948 in Bloomington, IL to William Edward and Marilyn Jean (White) Herrin. He graduated from Octavia High School in Colfax in 1966. He received his bachelor in Agriculture from Illinois State University in 1973.

He proudly served and retired from the United States Navy after 24 years, serving both in Vietnam and Desert Storm. Mike was a meat and poultry inspector for United States Department of Agriculture for over 30 years, retiring in 2015. He was passionate about serving fellow veterans in the community through the Veterans Assistance Commission, VFW Post 8350 - Chenoa, and an avid volunteer and curator of the Prairie Aviation Museum in Bloomington. Throughout the years, Mike continued to support his Alma Mater, Illinois State University, by being involved with the Agriculture Alumni Association, Rugby Alumni and enjoyed attending ISU basketball games.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Donna; his two beautiful daughters, Kimberly (Cort) Irish and Lindsey (Seth) Delahunt; five grandchildren, Jaden Irish, Ella Irish, Maren Irish, Claire Delahunt and Molly Delahunt; one great grandson, Amiri Sweet; five siblings, Sharon Hetherington of Bradenton, FL, Bill (Phyllis) Lewis of Bloomington, IL, Mark (Sandy) Lewis of Pontiac, IL, Cary Lewis of Pontiac, IL and Robert Lewis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph Herrin.

Visitation services to celebrate the life of Mike Herrin will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 3, 2022, at East Lawn Funeral Home, 1102 Airport Road, Bloomington, IL 61704. Committal services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum in East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
