Jerry Wayne Burgess, 80, of Bloomington, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024 at his residence. He was born on June 10, 1944 in Metropolis, a son of Delbert Burgess and Frances (Rose) Burgess. Jerry married Rosita Schenker on January 4, 1971 in Cairo. She survives.
He is also survived by his three children, Les (Yuman) Aldridge of Bloomington, Kevin Aldridge of Chicago, and Jennifer (Jason) Sereno of Bloomington; one grandson, Jake (Kayla) Sereno of Normal; and two great-grandsons, Logan and Oliver Sereno of Normal.
Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved Boston Terriers, Sara and Patsy.
He worked as a service technician for Sears & Roebuck for 38 years. Jerry enjoyed Chevrolets, especially Corvettes. Jerry also worked for Bloomington Gold since the early days as the Corvette Corral in 1973.
Jerry was truly a "gearhead" who loved to restore cars, the latest was his beloved 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air Bubbletop. He also had a passion for drag racing in his early years. Jerry's "MacGyver like" instincts allowed to fix almost anything for friends or family. He and Rosita loved to travel around the country in their motorhome.
Jerry's visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, December 13, 2024 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. His funeral service will be at 11:00 am also on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in East Lawn Memorial Gardens.
