James W. “Jim” Witten, 75, of LeRoy, passed away at 5:30p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at LeRoy Manor in Leroy, IL.
He was born February 1, 1936 in Toulon, IL son of Leslie M. and K.Irene Bruner Witten. He married Valerie Janet Crees on July 3, 1957, she preceded him in death on February 7, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Carole Boaz.
James is survived by two sons, John Randy (Sharon) Witten of Heyworth, IL and James Rick (Nancy) Witten of Mackinaw, IL; two daughters, Janet (Dave) Hedrick of Clinton, IL and Joni Back(Scott Price) of Normal, IL; three sisters, Wanda Goodwin of San Diego, CA, Lorraine Walker of Wyoming, IL and Virginia Houchin of Monticello, IN. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Brandy and Joshua Hedrick, Chelsea, and Ethan Witten, Jacob Back, Jonathan and Justin and Jeremiah Witten, and three great-grandchildren Cael David Hedrick , Maddie Hedrick and Wade Williamson.
James enjoyed a long career as an Assistant Superintendent in Printing at ISU for many years. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Heyworth Jaycees, a Boy scout leader and a little league baseball coach. He was also a member of the Heyworth Christian Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington, visitation will take place one hour prior also at East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington. Cremation rites have been accorded, inurnment will take place at a later date at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.
