Edward was born July 7, 1966 in Bloomington to Edward R. and Sidney I. Sinclair Bruner, of Bloomington; they survive.
Also surviving are 1 sister, Heidi (Greg) Hasty; 1 brother, Richard E. Bruner, both of Mackinaw; several aunts and uncles and many very close friends.
Edward was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Harold and Ethel Sinclair; paternal grandfather, Edward R. Bruner; and his companion of 10 years, Kevin Butler.
Edward was retired from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA. He had previously worked as an EMT, Deputy Sheriff, licensed Funeral Director / Embalmer, licensed Nursing Home Administrator, HIV Prevention Program Manager & CDC Public Health Analyst. Until recently, he volunteered at the McLean County AIDS Task Force in Bloomington, serving as the HIV Prevention Manger, HIV Testing - Program Manager, Grant Manager / Writer & Coordinator of the Open Door Youth Center, as well as the Co-Chairperson of the Illinois HIV Prevention Community Planning Group. Ed was actively involved at the Easter Seals Timber Pointe Camp in Hudson as a counselor and enjoyed traveling to Chicago, Miami Beach & Atlanta.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm Monday, April 16, 2012 at East Lawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00pm Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the funeral home. Cremation rites have been accorded; East Lawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Red Ribbon Trails at Easter Seals Timber Pointe Outdoor Center, 20 Timber Pointe Dr., Hudson, IL 61748. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Advocate BroMenn, especially the 5th Floor Nurses, hospice and Ed’s caregiver, James Tribett.
