Betty was born September 1, 1935 in Yuma, Colorado to Martin Van Buren and Mary Alice (Brown) Beedle. She married Carrol Dale Haynes on March 7, 1954 in Haxtun, Colorado and they raised two sons, Patrick Eugene, and Jeffrey Allen, and one daughter, Sandra Jo.
After Carrol finished serving in the Army in 1956, the couple settled near Fleming, Colorado to farm and raise livestock. Betty adjusted to life in the country after being raised in town and enjoyed spending time with her new extended family.
In 1967, Betty, Carrol, and their 3 children moved to Lake Benton, Minnesota. While there, Betty was very active in the United Methodist Church and women’s groups. She enjoyed supporting her children in sports, music, and other activities. Betty worked at the Drug Store, Laundromat, and Resort while in Lake Benton. She also performed in plays at the Opera House.
In 1979, Betty and her husband, Carrol, moved to Grand Mound, Iowa where she became involved in the DeWitt United Methodist church and met many new friends. Sadly, she was widowed in 1983.
In 1997, Betty moved to Bloomington, Illinois to be closer to some of her grandchildren. She became active in Wesley United Methodist Church including United Methodist Women, Senior Singles, Travel Ministries, Stephen Ministries, and the Bazaar crafters. She also enjoyed meeting with friends regularly for coffee.
Betty enjoyed traveling and experiencing different cultures. She had lots of fun stories from tours she took to many countries around the world. She was friendly and could strike up a conversation with most anyone. Betty was very creative and always made holidays and family get-togethers extra special. She was a strong, independent, woman of faith who bravely faced cancer 5 times with grace, a positive attitude, and an amazing sense of humor. She will be extremely missed.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mary Beedle; her sisters, Sarah Anderson and Alice Riley; half-sisters June Randolph and Marguerite Nelson; and husband Carrol Haynes.
