She accepted Christ and was baptized at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Fontana, California pastored by Rev. David Johnson. She has been an active member at the church for over 30 years. In her latter years, she joined the Mothers Board. She loved dressing in her white suit every 1st Sunday. She especially loved when they would ask her to give a talk because Mother had a lot of stories to tell. She was truly a mother to all that knew and loved her.
Rosa was raised by her grandmother, the late Emma Williams. She lived near Ft. Benning military base and that's where she met and married Lieutenant Alfred Porter Jones. Being a military wife allowed her the ability to travel overseas and to many different parts of the world. While stationed in Germany, she and her husband adopted a baby girl, Martha Marie Jones.
After they completed their military duties, in 1955 the couple moved to San Bernardino, California and in the early 1960's they settled in Fontana, California. They added three more children to the family: Sheryl Rosanne Jones, Alfred Porter Jones Jr. and Lisa Ann Jones.
Rosa had been married for 53 years before being widowed in September 2005. She has remained a strong and dedicated woman. She loved her family, friends and food. She wanted to feed everyone and was well known in the community.
"Moma Rosa" is what they all called her at the Inland Empire Light House School for the Blind. After she began slowly losing her sight in 1986, attending the blind school gave her a clear vision of strength and purpose. She was determined not to let her loss of sight stop her. She especially enjoyed the Bible class and her ceramics class. Three days a week Moma Rosa made her way to the Light House and that's where she loved being until thet very end.
Preceding her in death was her husband, the late Alfred Porter Jones Sr. In addition to her four children, she is survived by her grandchildren: Paul Macon, Peter Macon, Ronald James Brown Jr., Latrice Leonia Brown, Reginald James Brown, Christopher James Brown and Charlona Faye Jones. Great-grandchildren: Sean Edward Hill Jr., Seantriana Mon'e Hill, Bentley Lou'sohn Young, Marcus Prince James Brown, Jeramiah Eugene James Brown, Dominique Jorden James Brown and Jason James Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends.
