Farewell to our sweet angel, Colleen Jo McKay, 94, who passed away peacefully on September 22, 2024, in Murrieta, California. She was born in County Line Oklahoma to Waldo and Minnie Mitchell. She was preceded by her little brother Jimmy Mack Mitchell.
Colleen graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School 1948, where she excelled in academics, band, singing and dance. She would often perform for the USO at the municipal Auditorium in Long Beach. Colleen later worked as a phone operator at Southwestern Bell, secretary for Aerospace Corporation and in the appraisal department at Santa Fe Federal Savings and Loan. She also helped run Smitty's Steak House in Rialto with her first husband Alvin Smith.
Colleen met Alvin, in Duncan Oklahoma while she worked for him at his Soda Fountain/Drug Store. She asked him if he was hiring and he said, “when can you start?” (..in her words), "so then I married him".
They had two beautiful daughters Linda Evonne and Paula Kim.
When their marriage dissolved, Colleen married Pharis "Mack" McKay who had two amazing children, his son Kirk, and daughter Linda Sue. When Pamela Colleen came along, it made for a large colorful family of 7.
Colleen would keep the family in stitches as she told her stories and jokes just like a comedian would.
She also danced and sang around the house like a star. She made life so rich for anyone that met her... her smile and hugs could light up a room. She loved everyone she met, and everyone loved her. She was a blessing.
Colleen and Mack were married for 43 years, until his death. They enjoyed family, music, traveling and American Legion events.
