Samuel “Duke” Pappalardo, 83, of Colts Neck, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at CareOne at Wall, Wall Township. Born and raised in Newark, Samuel raised his family there until later moving to Lake Mohawk. In his early years, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He later worked as a long shoreman at Port Newark, and also as a welder, painter and tile setter. Sam proudly served the City of Newark for 31 years as a firefighter. He proudly spent his entire career at Truck Company 7, Tour 2, serving as a truckman, and was very well respected by all who served with him. Sam loved telling stories of his fire house days. Most of all, Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, children and grandchildren. He especially loved cooking and laughing with his wife of 65 years. Sam was predeceased by the love of his life, his loyal, loving and cherished wife Edith (Bonassisa) Pappalardo; their beloved son Christopher; his parents Sabato and Giuseppina Pappalardo; his brothers Emil and Andrew Pappalardo; and his sisters Julia Rozek and Anna Niemiec. He is survived by his cherished sons Salvatore and his wife Victoria, Gerard and his partner Alan, Anthony and his wife Kerri, and Stephen and his wife Teri; his adored grandchildren Stephen, Jr., Christopher, Sophia, Chloe, Gianna and Gabriella, and great grandson, Peyton; and his loving sister Carmela Calderone. Visitation will be at the Zarro Funeral Home, 145 Harrison Street, Bloomfield NJ 07003 (www.zarrofuneralhome.net), on Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 2-6 pm.
Kindly be at the funeral home on Monday, November 18th by 8:30am for a short service prior to an 9:30 am mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, in Newark.
