Elizabeth Pavlischak Machala, age 94, of Bloomfield died peacefully at Brighton Gardens of West Orange, NJ on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Funeral Services will be conducted by the Zarro Funeral Home, 145 Harrison Street, Bloomfield., Visitation is on Monday, January 16th from 9-10 am followed by mass at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Church, Bloomfield. Entombment is at Hollywood Memorial Park Cemetery, Union.
Betty is survived by her sister Mildred Nisivoccia of Nutley, Nj and was cared for by her niece Marie Nisivoccia Tellini of Woodland Park, NJ. She is also survived by 15 more nieces and nephews and their families including Barbara Tharp, CA; Robert Powell, NC; Beverly Tempalsky, NC; Patricia LaMarre, MA; Robin Pavlischak, WA; Charlotte Cikowski, NJ; Sonja Pavlischak, NJ; Anthony Nisivoccia, FL; Margaret Morone, NJ; Ronald Nisivoccia, NV; Andrew Nisivoccia, NJ; Robert Nisivoccia, NJ; Perry Nisivoccia, FL; Linda Pavlischak, PA; Andrew Pavlischak, P A.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Joseph J. Machala in 1970; Her sisters, Helen Kelly, 2001; Margaret Cikowski, 2000; her brothers, Michael Powell, 1978; Jack Pavlischak, 1983; Joseph Pavlischak, 2004;Charles Pavllischak, 2009 and Andrew Pavlischak,1944.
Elizabeth was born on May 3, 1922 in Miners Mills, PA one of 9 children of John and Helen (Selepak) Pavlischak. She was baptized and confirmed in the Byzantine Catholic Rite in Wilkes Barre, PA. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Plains, PA and also continued to take night classes in many subjects over the years.
Elizabeth married Joseph J. Machala on June 12, 1965 at Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield. She was employed by RCA in Harrison, NJ as a quality control inspector for many years until it closed. Betty loved to sing and dance well into her 80’s and 90’s and was always part of the yearly shows put on by the employees of RCA in Harrison.
Betty loved to travel and visit with relatives and friends in many states including Florida, Colorado, North Carolina ,Pennsylvania, Washington DC, and Washington State. She also enjoyed trips to Bermuda, Jamaica, Panama, Puerto Rico, Spain and Hawaii. Betty loved to crochet and made many beautiful shawls, afghans and hats. She lived in Halcyon Park in Bloomfield for over 67 years and grew beautiful roses in her yard. She was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Bloomfield, NJ and also attended St. Anthony Church in Belleville.
Betty loved to take pictures and movies and she was always impeccably and fashionably attired. She was a very intelligent woman who worked hard and took pride in her accomplishments. She will be missed by her many friends and family.
