William H. Wingate Jr.

William H. Wingate, Jr., age 71, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 24, 2018. He was born on March 24, 1947 to William and Betty Jean Wingate. He was a graduate of W.A. Berry High School and Samford University. He worked at Birmingham Water Works from 1970 to 1994, serving as General Manager from 1988 to 1994. He then joined Trussville Utilities as General Manager until his retirement in 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Caryn; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Martha Wingate; one granddaughter, Mary Hudson Wingate; stepson, Matthew Woods; brother, John Charles “Chuck” (Sandra) Wingate; sister, Toni (William) Waldrop; brother, Paul (Lisa) Wingate, and, numerous nephews and nieces and their families. The family is grateful for the care from the staff in the Southland unit at Aspire in Hoover and the staff at Oasis Hospice. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on November 27, 2018 at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a celebration of Bill’s life following at 11:00 a.m.
