William Foster Kinney, “Foster”, died October 27, 2021, from complications of a breakthrough Covid-19 viral infection. Foster was the son of the late Richard Warren Kinney Sr. and Rufie Dixon Holloway Kinney. He was born April 12, 1945 in Presque Isle, Maine where his father was stationed in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Foster is survived by his fraternal twin Dr. F. Cleveland Kinney and brothers R. Warren Kinney Jr. and Rufus Dixon Kinney. He is also survived by nephews R. Warren Kinney III (Lee Mariott), John Foster Kinney (Brenda), Bryan William Kinney (Tiffany) and Shannon Cleveland Kinney. He was the great uncle of a great niece and of many great nephews. Foster grew up in the Forest Park neighborhood of Birmingham. He attended the Avondale School, Ramsay High School and was a graduate of Samford University. He served four years in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam Conflict having been stationed in Bad Aibling, Germany throughout his enlistment. He worked in the credit industry and in banking. Near the end of his life he particularly enjoyed his employment at Palmer’s Lamp Shade Shop. Foster had a great sense of style. He was a fine cook and enjoyed entertaining in his handsomely appointed condominium. Foster last resided in Woodside at St. Martin’s in the Pines. His company was eagerly sought by all and he was frequently described as being exceeding charming. He was always considered to be a southern gentleman. Foster was a kind, gentle soul. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed. Foster was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church.
There will be a memorial service at Southside Baptist Church on Thursday, November 4, 2021. The family will receive guests immediately following the service in the Dillard Lobby.
