Walter L. Hanley, age 68, of Birmingham, AL, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021. Walter was born September 8, 1952 to James Woodward Hanley and Joan Merilyn Lebkuecher Hanley. Walter was the third of three boys and had three sisters. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph Thomas Hanley, and James Philip Hanley; and brother in-law, Earle Wayne Overton, III. He is survived by his sisters, Jan H. Overton, Mary H. Rait (John), Ruth H. Dunn (Joly); nieces, Crystal Smith (Mike), Meribeth Camp (Tyler), and Bryna Hanley; nephews, John Stephen Rait, Dr. Joey Willis, David Willis, and Earle Wayne Overton, IV; great nephews, Ethan Tyler Trimm and Grey Alexander Smith.
In Walter’s younger years, he was a wonderful baseball player & altar boy at church. In high school at Ramsey, he became an avid and lifelong golfer. His favorite times were golf and fishing! Walter never missed a birthday or holiday and was very happy to spend time with family. As well as his special friends, Mike & Lucy Bres, Charlie Saab, and John David. He served in the Air Force Reserves, and was a “Weekend Warrior” cook! Walter worked at David Tire & Sam’s Club tire department as manager for several years.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at graveside Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 1pm at Elmwood Cemetery.
