Wallace Lenwood Scott passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2024, at the age of 96, surrounded by his loving family. Wallace was born on March 10, 1928, in Montgomery, Alabama to Sidney Wallace Scott and Edna Victoria Dunwoody Scott. Wallace was the first-born son and one of twelve siblings, having five brothers and six sisters. Wallace was the father of three children, and had five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, all of whom adored him.
Wallace graduated from Marbury High School in Marbury, Alabama in 1946. Wallace married Frances Evelyn Scott in 1948, and they remained married for 58 years. Wallace was employed for 42 years as an electrician for the Louisville & Nashville and CSX railroads. Wallace was also the owner of Scott Electric Company which he continued to operate after his retirement from CSX. In retirement, Wallace was a loving and devoted caregiver to his wife before Evelyn’s passing in 2007. Wallace and Evelyn were members of Roebuck Drive United Methodist Church.
Wallace is survived by his daughter, Susan (Michael) Henderson, his sons Alan and Stephen (Alison) Scott, grandchildren Jason Stephens, Amy Cosby, Brennan Wallace Scott, Grayson Scott, and Georgia Kate Scott; great grandchildren Jacob Stephens, Jonathan Stephens, Jesse Stephens, McKenzie Cosby, and Maggie Cosby; great great grandson Niko Stephens; sisters Betty (Jim, deceased) Harmon, June (Harold) Stone, Brenda (Roger) Myers; brothers Guy (Louise) Scott, Bob Scott, Jim (Judy) Scott, Michael (Denise) Scott, and his sister-in-law Catherine Kaufmann Tatum. Wallace is also survived by many nieces and nephews who knew him best as “Uncle Bus.” To many of his friends, Wallace was known simply as “W.L.”
Wallace is preceded in death by his wife Frances Evelyn Scott, sisters Audrey Scott Morton, Lorene Scott Reeves, Elenor Scott Harris, brother Sidney Scott, and brothers-in-law Andrew Joseph Kaufmann and Robert Carl Kaufmann.
The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude to Wallace’s devoted nurses and caregivers, including Zecondra Truitt, Ieleana Oden, Rebecca LeBlanc, Tammy Bishop, Neal Bruce (Chaplain) and many others from Enhabit Hospice; Brenda McKenzie, Cate Andrews, Deatra Davis, Kathy Coleman, Beryl Cook, Taneel Owens, Cheryl Constant and The Homecare Connection owner, Brian Nunnley.
The family also wishes to express special appreciation to Wallace’s long-time neighbor and lifesaver, Yvonne Johnson, who faithfully prayed with and for Wallace. Yvonne’s dogs Shadow and L.J. were assigned and provided very special protection.
Funeral services will be held on April 17, 2024, at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel and Jefferson Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or your chosen charitable organization.
