

Virginia Rudulph Thrasher, age 99, of Birmingham, AL passed away peacefully on October 18th, 2019, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents Zebulon Thomas Rudulph and Sallie Fuller Rudulph, her husband Joel Marion Thrasher; her brother John Barratt Rudulph, sisters Sarah Elizabeth Rudulph and Gertrude Rudulph Sherrod. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, John B. Rudulph, Jr. (Sandy); Frances R. Wilkinson (Frank); James G. Rudulph (Patty); Sallie S. Sherrill (Joe); Peyton C. Sherrod (Anne); Virginia S. Miller (Boyd); H. Bradford Sherrod; and David A. Sherrod (Veronica). She also had many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Virginia was very well educated having graduated from Randolph-Macon Women’s College, and earned her Master’s degree from Stanford University. She began her career as a school teacher at the Highlands Day School and later went into real estate at The Rudulph Company. She had many passions for life which included travel, nature, civic duty and family. Although she was a world traveler, her most favorite travel location was to ‘Perdido’, the family retreat in Orange Beach, AL. She volunteered for the Cornerstone Schools, the Crisis Center, the Birmingham Museum of Art and Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve. She was a member of the Audubon Society and particularly enjoyed bird watching. She was also an avid hiker. She lived an enchanted life, supported by her own accomplishments; she was regal, statuesque, and lived with grace and dignity toward all people. Her family will forever cherish her memory.
A private family internment will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to The Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, 1214 81st Street So., Birmingham, AL 35206.
