Thomas Lee Willetts, Sr., 81, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away February 7, 2018, at his home. He was born February 17, 1936, in Burlington, IA, to Cecil H. and Lennea P. Willetts. As a young man, Tom achieved Eagle Scout and Vigil honors through the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Mississippi State University as a chemical engineer and was employed by Alabama Power Company for many years before his retirement. Following in the footsteps of his father, Tom also served in the leadership of Vestavia Hills Lions Club. Tom had a wonderful tenor voice and shared this gift of God through church and community choirs. He cherished his family and enjoyed spending time with them and being involved in their lives. He is preceded in death by his parents. Tom is survived by his wife, Del Enslen Greene Willetts; sons, Rev. Thomas L. Willetts, Jr. (Rev. Lia) of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Stephen C. Willetts (Lin) of Flippin, AR; step-children, Michael Greene (Lisa Marie) of Chelsea and Karen Greene Pirkle (Greg) of Vestavia. Grandchildren include Tiffania Willetts of Atlanta, GA; Isabel Willetts, missionary in China; Jonathan Willetts of Dry Ridge, KY; Katelyn Willetts; Heather, Bailey and Erin Greene; McKenzie and Ashton Pirkle. The family thanks Comfort Care Hospice and care-givers Trisha Garner, Eric Stanley, and Maryland Watson who spent many hours with him during the last several months. The family will receive friends at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 a.m. The family request memorial contributions be made to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church, 2061 Kentucky Ave. Vestavia Hills, AL 35216 or Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church, 2541 Rocky Ridge Rd.
