Thomas Lawrence "Tom" Longshore Jr of Chelsea, Alabama went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 28, 2015. He was born on December 10, 1963 in Birmingham, Alabama to Thomas Lawrence Longshore, Sr. and Betty Allen Hurst Longshore. After high school in 1983, Tom joined the US Coast Guard and was stationed in Mobile, Alabama. After 4 years of service, he left the Coast Guard to attend culinary school in Vermont. He earned a degree from New England Culinary Institute and was a wonderful chef. Throughout the years, Tom was a jack of all trades. He was a chef, owned a successful catering business, a business coach, and was currently a Regional Manager for Highline Property Management. He worked at both Montclair Hospital and UAB West as their Food Service Director and Registered Dietitian. Tom was a member of Church of the Highlands where he served in several areas such as the LIFE and prison ministries and as a campus greeter. He also assisted with missions trip orientations. Tom was a devoted husband, father, and friend who always offered an encouraging word to everyone. He loved praying for other. He loved to cook and entertain his family and friend. He loved to hunt and fish. He will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by Susan Oliver Longshore, his wife of 29 years; daughter Caitlin Tanner (Jonathan), son Thomas Longshore III (Anna Michael), and daughter Emily Longshore; grandchildren Emma Reese Longshore, Thomas Longshore IV, Jackson, Emery, Luke, and Graham Tanner; a brother John Allen Longshore and a sister Paula Longshore Dobnikar. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Jack Oliver. Celebration of Tom’s Life will be Friday, April 3, 2015 at Elmwood Chapel from 10:00 to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am.
