Thomas “Tom” Henry Homan, 97, a long-time resident of Trussville, died March 7, 2020, following a brief illness. Born in Gordo, Alabama, February 16, 1923, Tom, the son of Thomas and Itie Homan, grew up in north Birmingham.
During WW II, Tom served in the Navy on The USS Biloxi, also known as The Busy Bee and Double Lucky. The USS Biloxi received nine battle stars for her service in the Pacific during WWII.
Tom attended Phillips High School and married his high school sweetheart, Helen Bullard. Tom and Helen celebrated 71 years of marriage before her death in 2016.
Tom was actively employed until the age of 82. His employment included 30 years with Sears, 15 years with Berman Construction Group, and 10 years with ADESA Car Auction.
Tom and his family were actively involved in First Baptist Church of Trussville where he served in leadership roles as Deacon, Royal Ambassador (RA) Leader, and Sunday School Superintendent.
Tom was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Helen, and his nine siblings. Tom was the last surviving child of ten children in his family.
Tom will be greatly missed by his surviving family, which includes his children, Patricia Lloyd (Tom); Peggy Connell (Jack); Joel Tim Homan (Jenny); Pamela Gamel (Buddy); Todd Homan (Melicent); and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Family will receive guests at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Wednesday, March11th from 1:00 to 2:00, with Funeral Services at 2:00. Graveside service will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
