He was born on May 23, 1945 in Jasper AL, the same day as his older twin sisters. He used to joke about his birthday cake always being pink! Terry was active in sports his entire life, beginning with Little League in which he played as a 6-year-old with the older boys. As a teen he hustled traveling pool players in a Jasper pool hall to make spending money for college. He also played football and baseball in high school, and when he joined the Navy (in 1967) he competed in pool, bowling, Aikido, basketball and softball. Later in life he enjoyed playing pool at the Trussville Senior Center. , competing and earning medals in several statewide Alabama Masters Games.
Terry met Melody in 1970 when he was serving as Chief Physical Therapist at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Married on April 17, 1971, he was discharged from the Navy, and they began their new life back in Alabama, raising 3 wonderful sons, Pete, Ben, and Tim Hoobler. During their 50 years of marriage Terry and his wife brought Marriage Encounter to the Birmingham Diocese.
Active for many years in his church he served as Parish Council President, as an officer in Knights of Columbus, as a Lector and Eucharistic minister.
Terry earned a BA in Physical Therapy and an MA in Education. He spent most of his career as an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at UAB, and he often spread his own brand of humor and encouragement working at various hospitals on the weekends.
Terry will mostly be remembered for his friendliness and outgoing nature. People gravitated toward him because he was so approachable and made everyone feel welcome. He will be missed by his family for his constant love and support., and all the little things he did every day to show his love.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Fleming Hoobler and Charles Richmond Hoobler and sister,Patricia Joan Powell of Jasper, AL.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Melody Mooney Hoobler; sons: Peter Hoobler, Ben Hoobler, Tim Hoobler; sister, Patsy Jean Hepler of Dallas, TX; granddaughters: Kalyn Kelly, Holly Hoobler,Ella Hoobler and Gwyneth Hoobler and a host of other relatives.
A visitation for Terry will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 980 Huffman Rd,, Birmingham, AL 35215. A committal service will occur Monday, October 4, 2021 from 1:15 PM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry’s memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
