On Monday, June 8th, Terry Edward Dunne entered his heavenly home at the age of 82. Terry was born on August 19, 1937 to Mildred Perryman and Stephen Freeman Dunne in Birmingham, Alabama. Terry graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1955 and attended Howard College. Terry married Julia Ann Baker on October 24, 1958 and celebrated 61 wonderful years and three children together.
Terry started working at the young age of thirteen and found success throughout his career--first as a policeman and wreck investigator with the Birmingham Police Department, and then as a lineman with South Central Bell. The year 1962 marked the beginning of a very distinguished 50+ year career in the insurance industry for Terry. He started as a claims adjuster with American Liberty Insurance company and over the next 21 years, he led and managed multiple companies as the president and CEO. In 1984, Terry and his wife opened the first of their three Managing General Agencies (MGA). The culmination of Terry's success and vast industry knowledge was the opening of his own insurance company, Trigon, Inc., in November 1987.
Terry was known for his extraordinary ability to connect with others and build meaningful relationships both personally and professionally. He traveled the world and told stories of his adventures that captivated friends and family. He could be found fishing at the lake, worshiping at Bluff Park United Methodist Church, laughing with friends, and attending all activities in which his grandchildren participated.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Julia Baker Dunne; three children, Laura (Tommy) Davis, Dennis (Luanne) Dunne, and Rebecca (Scott) Brooks; eight grandchildren, Tyler Robbins, Kirby (Brian) Yates, Ryan (Anna) Dunne, Justin (Brittany) Dunne, Trent (Abbie) Dunne, Caroline (Perry) Sims, Courtney (Jake) Barfield, and Rachel (Tommy) Maurer; two great-grandchildren, Ava Grace Dunne and Baker James Maurer-with more on the way.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at 10 am at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 11 am.
Donations can be made in his memory to the Shriner's Hospital for Children or Central Alabama Alzheimer's Association.
