Sylvia Gail Jackson Walker died at home on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the age of 72 years in Birmingham, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her parents, James Raymond Jackson and Estelle Jennet Davis. Surviving are her husband, Reginald George Walker, Sr., her son and daughter Reginald George Walker, Jr and Michelle Walker Lewis, and her two siblings, Joyce Jackson Sievers and Jay Raymond Jackson, along with Brother-in-law Herbert Sievers, Sr. and sisters-in-law Barbara Jackson & Cherry Bordelon. Daughter-in-law Monica Walker and son-in-law Rusty Lewis are also surviving. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, Tammy Sievers Watson, Herbert Sievers, Jr., Jodie Sievers Georgusis, Jay Jackson, Jr., Erica Jackson Stephens, Christin Bordelon, Bridget Bordelon and their spouses, Carmelite Sievers, Jason Georgusis, Cherie Jackson, Melvin Stephens, Shane McMath, and Greg LaRose. She was grandma to 6 grandchildren; Michael Salvador, Sebastian Walker, Alexander Walker, Nathalie Salvador, Josue’ Walker Vazquez, & Josh Lewis. She is also survived by several cousins Janice Kirkwood of California, Jerry Ray, Fred Ray, Sandy McLeod, Carol Burnett, and Kirk Hefner, all of Washington. Sylvia left behind numerous grand nieces and nephews as well. Sylvia was born in Port Townsend, Washington in 1948. Several years later, she and her family moved to New Olreans, LA after a brief stay in Texas. She was raised in New Orleans by her Mother and Father, along with her two younger siblings. Sylvia attended and graduated from Fortier High School, then married in 1968 to her husband, having two children shortly thereafter. Sylvia maintained a role as a Human Resource Professional for 35 years with AT&T and retired in 2008. She spent her retirement years, caring for her elderly mother who died in 2015, passing time with her husband watching their favorite television shows, took a magical trip with family to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas, expressed her artistic side through creative family photo CD presentations and had recently picked up landscape painting. One of her favorite activities was the research and construction of her and her husband's ancestral family tree. Nothing made Sylvia happier than bringing family together. Her favorite times of the year were the Holidays when her family celebrated together and shared tradition while enjoying her irresistible cooking.
Sylvia J Walker's visitation will begin at 11:30am CST on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with her service beginning at 12:00pm CST, with burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens beginning approximately at 1:00pm CST.
We will be streaming the service live on Facebook preceded by a photo slide presentation set to Sylvia's favorite music beginning at 11:30am CST. We are offering the live Facebook streaming as an alternative to physical attendance in an effort to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. We strongly encourage participation in the funeral's live streaming in honor of Sylvia whose life was lost battling the effect of this deadly virus.
