Sybil Reeves Cook, 93, went home to be with her Savior on April 10, 2023, leaving a legacy of love and family devotion. She was born in Birmingham, AL, on November 12, 1929, to Thomas Leonard Heflin Reeves and Minnie Crouch Reeves, the youngest of their three children. She was a cheerleader at West End High School, and graduated with many friendships that were cherished throughout her lifetime. She attended Birmingham Southern College.
Sybil was employed as an underwriter for Motors Insurance Corporation, a division of General Motors. Her expertise in the field led to assignments to train employees in the GM offices in Michigan, Miami, and New York City. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and dominoes, shopping, making her famous fudge for the holidays, and spending time with her beloved family.
Always fashionable and elegant, Sybil’s gregarious personality drew her to the people she encountered, and drew them to her. She often took time to hear the problems of strangers she met along the way and pray for them. She brightened the day of everyone in her path with her beautiful smile and the cheerful reminder “Jesus loves you!”. She was a devoted member of Hunter Street Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Harold Reeves; her sister, Kathleen Reeves Agee; and by her granddaughter, Audrey Cook Calabro. Survivors include her children: Harry D. Cook III (Jo Ann) of Dublin, GA, Kim Cook (Mary) of Birmingham, AL, Casey Cook Moore (Joel), of Auburn, AL; and her grandchildren: Dayton Thomas Cook, Jarrett Dayton Moore (Kimberly), and Kelsey Cassandra Moore, to whom she was lovingly known as “Dear.” She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A visitation will be held for Sybil Cook on Monday, April 17, at Johns Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. The family will receive visitors in the chapel at 1:00 p.m., with a graveside celebration of life service to follow at 2:00 pm.
