Gerry was born on August 23, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama, the only child of Emory and Rochelle (Estes) Lefoy.
After the untimely death of her father, Gerry took a position with General Motors to help support her mother and herself. They moved in with Gerry's aunt and cousins, with whom she was very close. Gerry graduated from Phillips High School, class of 1950. On December 18, 1955, she married Don L. Rogers. Together they raised one son, Steve, and two daughters, Sherri and Kelli. Gerry worked as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force early in her career. She worked as a full time mom until her children were in school, at which time she returned to work for the United Methodist Church in many capacities until her retirement. Gerry was both gifted and passionate about administration and was commonly called upon for her coordination abilities. She was a longtime member of St. John's UMC. She loved the church and its members. Gerry will be remembered for her kindness, gratitude, easy smile, engaging laughter, and her ability and passion to make people feel loved. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Emory (Blue) and Rochelle Lefoy. Gerry is survived by her husband, Don L. Rogers; her children Steve Rogers (Angie), Sherri Boyd (Ken), and Kelli O'Reilly (Andy); her grandchildren Stephanie Alexander (Ryan), Matthew Rogers, Ashley Rogers, Travis Boyd (Haley), Rusty Boyd (Amanda), Sara Tucker, Felicity O'Reilly; her great grandchildren Rileigh Calloway, Blakely Boyd, and Henley Boyd; as well as many special friends whom she loved like family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Wilson Chapel United Methodist Church, 412 Cumberland Drive, Birmingham, AL 35206. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, AL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wilson Chapel UMC in memory of Gerry.
