Shirley Jones

Shirley Ann Jones (Nee Slaton), age 90, passed away April 9, 2025, peacefully and surrounded by her loving family. She was a resident at Legacy Ridge Assisted Living, where she received exceptional care. She was loved by staff and residents alike. Shirley was a very classy and elegant lady, always looking her best,

Shirley was born July 11, 1934, to G. O. and Annie Lou Slaton in West Blocton. She was a graduate of West Blocton High, where she was a cheerleader. She moved to Birmingham and began work at TCI (US. Steel) in Fairfield at the administrative offices. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert L. Jones “Bob”. They married on August 15, 1959. They lived in Birmingham for a few years, then Memphis until 1978, when they made their permanent home back in Birmingham's Huffman area. She was a member of Huff man United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three wonderful sons: Barry, wife Lisa, children Connor and Hayden, all of Memphis. Eric, wife Karen, children Michael, all of Pinson, Kelly Jones of Colorado Springs; and Rachel Tice, husband Kevin, of Hoover. Two great grandchildren, Jones Robert and Bennett Thomas Tice of Hoover, Todd, wife Shelley, of Springville, children Samantha Ray of Thailand, Andrew Ray, wife Charlotte, of Plantersville, and Kyndall Harrison, wife Kourtney, of Clanton. Shirley is also survived by loving sisters, Linda Smith, husband Barry, of Wedowee, and Donna Parker, husband Jim, of McCalla.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bob; her brother, Johnnie Slaton, and sister, Patsy McElroy.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, April 14, 2025 at Ridout’s in Trussville. Family will gather at 9:30 a.m., friend’s visitation from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Birmingham.

In remembrance of Shirley’s life and love, charitable donations are welcome. Huffman United Methodist Church, Jimmie Hale Mission, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Legacy Ridge Assisted Living.
