and Rosia Belton. She was the oldest in a family of five children and was preceded in death by
all her siblings Louise Belton Jones, Wilma McSwain, Frank Belton Jr, and James Belton. She
attended Lewis Elementary School and A.H. Parker High School.
She married the love of her life, who preceded her in death, Leemon Lee Lewis Sr., on August
5, 1960. Under this union, 6 children were raised; two handsome sons and four beautiful
daughters. Her son, Bruce Belton from Detroit, MI, preceded her in death.
She became a member of Faith Apostolic Church in Birmingham, AL; under the leadership of
the late Bishop Heron Johnson. She was a member of the FAC Senior choir and served as a
faithful missionary member under the leadership of the late Dr. Zholia Johnson. She served
faithfully as a deacon’s wife and continued in service under the leadership of Pastor Michael
Bender until her death.
She worked in the Children’s Hospital Dietary Department and the Eastlake Nursing Home
where she touched many lives. She was a greatly loved crossing guard for Mountain Brook
Elementary School and volunteered for Trinity Hospital. In her free-time, she enjoyed walking
her dog, Gee, working in the yard, playing claw arcade game machines, and sending out cards
to family and friends. Ruth also enjoyed her little catering group that got together and prepared
food for bereaved families. She also enjoyed preparing food for the FAC Vacation School
children.
She loved vacation time with her family and friends. She developed a special and tight bond
with so many of the saints and other people that have been blessed to be a part of her life. She
loved her family, no matter how wide they stretched; she loved them all. She loved her pastor
and his wife; she always had so much concern for their wellbeing. She had a phone list and
would reach out to as many as she could to check on those she had not heard from. The
pandemic changed a lot of things; but never interfered with her love for others. Some of her last
words were, “I Love Everybody”. If you are reading this – You Are Loved!!!
She departed this life on April 9th, 2022. She leaves not to mourn, but to cherish and celebrate
pleasant memories; five children, Mrs. Sherron (Eli) Johnson, Mrs. Angelnette (Kenneth)
Thomas, Mrs. Dellerna (Woody Sr.) Hayden, Mr. Leemon (Angela) Lewis, and Ms. Marvette
