Robert Ray Funderburg Sr.

Robert Ray Funderburg Sr., 85, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 30, 2020. He was born on November 25, 1934 in Pell City, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Rowland K. Funderburg (Martha) of Irving Texas. He is survived by: son Robert Ray Funderburg Jr. of Helena and daughter Rebecca Glass (Rodney) of Hoover; granddaughters Lindsey Guthrie (Daniel); Courtney Jacobs (Wyatt); Grandson Tanner Glass and great granddaughters Tuesdai Jacobs, Saylah Jacobs, and Nora Guthrie. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs Boy and Little Bit. Mr. Funderburg grew up in Birmingham and attended West End High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War (wounded). Mr. Funderburg also worked in law-enforcement over 40 years, retiring from Central Bank as the director of security. He also served his community as president of the Civitan Club and worked with the Metro Police Chiefs Association as well as several other community service organizations. He was also a proud member of the Center Point Masonic Lodge #872 for 50+ years. Funeral will be Friday, September 4, 2020 at Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW Birmingham, AL. 35211. Visitation at 1PM, service at 2 PM with graveside to follow at Elmwood Cemetery with military honors and masonic rites.
