Robert G. “Greg” Carroll, age 65, of Hoover, AL passed away on Friday morning, December 22, 2017 from injuries he sustained from a car accident. He was surrounded by his two daughters and loved ones right by his side as he departed this world and was no longer suffering. Greg was a very devout Catholic and was a charter member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Greg is survived by his two daughters, who absolutely adored him; Leslie Carroll (Hector) of Homewood, AL, Jennifer Carroll of Hoover, AL, his loving mother Martha Rowell Carroll of Hoover, Al and brother David Carroll of San Francisco, Ca. and the absolute love of his life, his beautiful granddaughter, Rayne Cynthia. Rayne will always remember her beloved “Papa”, if anything could brighten his day, she was definitely the one. He is also survived by a host of cousins and very close friends and neighbors. Glenn Richards was Greg's best friend and absolute best neighbor of 30 years. Greg was preceded in death by his loving wife, Cynthia P. Carroll and his loving father Robert P. Carroll “Bob”. Greg attended Auburn University, and ultimately graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. Greg worked at the V.A Hospital while attending school at UAB. After he graduated, he went to work for IBM, where he was employed for 30 years and eventually retired in 2008. Greg enjoyed family and also loved company (esp his new found buddy, puppy Taco), listening to records, watching tv shows, grilling out and Hector’s cooking. Greg enjoyed life in general and he will forever be loved, missed and never forgotten. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life following at 11:00 a.m. with Father Thomas Kelly officiating. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donation be made to the ASPCA or The American Cancer Society.
