Our beloved Richard O’dell Baker, Sr. passed away on September 28, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Hallman Baker; his son, Richard O’dell Baker, Jr.; and daughter, Trudy Baker Schneider; with their respective spouses, Helen Baker and Richard Schneider. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Delani, Tyler, Courtney, Joey, Emma, and Christian. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Staples Baker and granddaughter, Frances Jean Schneider. After graduating from Birmingham Southern, Richard dedicated many years to working as a computer programmer, beginning with the Jefferson County Scholl Board and retiring from EDS. He was a devoted fan of the Crimson Tide and cherished spending football weekends with his family, either attending games in person or watching them on television. His passion for the Crimson Tide was a bond he shared with his children and grandchildren.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 10 am until 11 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 80 St. Thomas Way, Montevallo, Alabama 35115. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 am. Richard will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.
