Raymond Elbert Smith, Jr.

Ray “Buddy” Smith, age 94 of Pell City, AL passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. He retired from the Army in 1970 and later retired from Air Engineers in Leeds after 22 years of service. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was hardworking Christina man who enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond E. Smith, Sr. and Lorene E. Smith, a daughter, Lisa Gayle Smith; four brothers, Bobby E. Smith, Tommy Ray Smith, Tony F. Smith and Darwin Smith; a brother-in-law, Aubrey "A.C." Sullivan.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Joann Farmer Smith; his sons, Ricky Lee Smith, Sr. and Michael Ray Smith (Marcia); his daughter, Patricia Ann Hart (Billy); his brothers, Connie W. Smith (Faye) and Billy H. Smith; sisters, Inez E. Smith Sullivan and Linda M. Smith Hill (Larry Joe); Nineteen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren; a step son, David Tompkins and a step granddaughter, Kayla Tompkins who's care and love has been greatly appreciated; he also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A celebration of Ray’s life will take place Ridout’s Trussville Chapel on Wednesday, October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. with visitation for family and friends held one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the chapel service at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in Pinson. Pastor Barry Alverson with Pleasant Valley Baptist Church will preside over the service.

The family would like to thank Lakeside Hospice and Adoration Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Ray, and a special thank you to Nurse Becky.
