Paul Melvin Burnett, 82, went home to be with the Lord on April 17, 2023. He was born in Cariere, Mississippi on February 21, 1941 to Jerrell and Marie Burnett. Paul was raised on a farm in Henleyfield, Mississippi. After reaching adulthood, he relocated to Birmingham, Alabama where he and his beloved wife, Emma raised their children. Paul retired from Doster Construction Company where he worked for over 30 years. Many of the buildings across Birmingham’s skyline he helped to construct.
Paul is survived by his wife, Emma Burnett; daughter, Daphyne Burnett; sons, Chris Burnett, Keith Burnett, and Paul Burnett (Beverly); grandchildren, Corderi Burnett (Shantreal), Desmon Raymond Burnett, Ashea Elizabeth Jones Brown (Carlton), Howard E. Jones, III, Skylar Burnett, Austin Guice, Corderius Cook; great grandchildren, Corderi Cortez Burnett, Jr., Haiden Beasley, Carter Cortez Burnett, Nova Cheyenne Burnett, Starmani Black, Leown E. Jones, Elijah E. Jones, Kendrick Jones, Howard E. Jones IV; brothers, Jewel Burnett, Nate Burnett, Jay Burnett, and Charles Burnett; and sisters, Ernestene Burnett, Dorothy Burnett, and Elsie McLaughline.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 12pm until 2pm at Elmwood Chapel Funeral home in the Celebration Chapel. A celebration of Paul’s life will follow at 2pm. Paul will be laid to rest in Birmingham’s historic Elmwood Cemetery & Mausoleum in Block 21.
