Mona Wynelle Hurlbert Fisher attended Shades Valley High School, and Samford University undergraduate and graduate school; Miss Alabama Scholarships, Samford. Active in many phases of communication, including Southern Medical Association, international lecturing, European Coordinator of the US Army’s 3rd Infantry Division Alcohol Abuse Program. She received the Golden Eagle Journalism award, in the State of Alabama, and produced corporate videos for Auburn University and the State of Alabama.
She has been a long time member of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, and a member of the Vestavia Hills Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow.
She is survived by her husband, R. Gregory Ruff, Vestavia Hills, AL, and son, Lane Hurlbert Carter, Saint Charles, MO; by Jimmy Carter of Orange Beach, AL; by cousins, Marshall and Nita Deason of Clearwater, FL; and by cousins, Bart Henson of Houston, TX, and Bob Douglass, of Fairhope, AL.
She is predeceased by her parents, Wynelle and Raymond Hurlbert, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.T. Reeves, Sr. and Mr. And Mrs. Ernest Hurlbert.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Birmingham’s historic Elmwood Cemetery at 2pm.
