Mildred MᶜCain Smith, age 105, passed away on Wednesday, the 25th of November 2020 at Columbiana Health & Rehab facility in Columbiana, Alabama. She was preceded in death: by parents Dewitt L MᶜCain and Easter Turner MᶜCain; brother Richard E MᶜCain; husband, William E Smith and infant daughter, Shirley Ann Smith. She is survived by sons William E Smith Jr. (Linda) and Jerry W Smith; grandchildren Debra Smith Young (Dave) and Pamela Smith Willis (Randy); great grandchildren Mathew Young and Kristin Young.
Mildred was born in Webster County Mississippi but moved to the Avondale area of Birmingham during her early childhood years graduating from Avondale School and Phillips High School. After graduation, she worked as an Assistant Dietitian at South Highland Hospital until her marriage. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed many forms of needle crafts as a hobby. She also loved to cook for her family and was noted for her fig preserves and different types of divinity candy.
Mildred was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Birmingham and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Jasper, Alabama when she lived on Smith Lake. Mildred loved to attend church, to read her bible and to pray. As her health and eyesight declined, she continued to pray daily for her needs, as well as for other family members.
There will be a graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial donations be sent to Faith Presbyterian Church Sharing Faith campaign at 4601 Valleydale Rd, Birmingham, AL 35242.
