Mildred Fay Smith (Granny), age 77 of Birmingham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2021. Fay was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and a friend to all who knew her. She retired from McGriff, Seibels and Williams after 40 years of service. Most of her life she was a member of South Avondale Baptist Church where she was very active in the nursery and youth group. After moving to Talladega she became an active member of Stemley Baptist Church.
Fay was passionate about many things in life. She was a devoted Auburn Tigers fan and would attend every home football game she could. She loved all animals dearly, especially her own.
Of all the titles she ever had granny was her favorite. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She rarely ever missed a sporting event, birthday or recital. She was loud and she was proud. She was a listening ear, a comforter, an honest opinion whether you needed it or not and your own personal cheerleader all in one. But above all else she loved Jesus, she loved serving the Lord with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Avis “Mimi” Drummonds; her brother, James Ervin Guthrie; her twin sister Kay G. Crabill; her nephew Jake Drummonds; fiancé Jimmy Rawlinson. She is survived by her daughter, Sabra Johnson (Frank); her grandchildren, William H. Battle, Torrey Battle Teal (William), and T. Alden Battle; her great grandchildren Blakley Elizabeth and William (Whit) Teal. Also survived by her Neice “other daughter” Sheri Drummonds, Ashley Powell (JP) and Kayla Drummonds. Special friends Teri, Joey, Ann, Harry, and Joe Rawlinson. Many cousins and friends.
Fay was a loving, sassy, strong and honest woman. She is loved, and we will miss her everyday.
Visitation will be Monday, February 22, at 1:00 p.m. at Trussville Ridout’s with service following at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Carl Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. Donations can be made to Stemley Baptist Church in Talladega.
