On July 27, at 7 AM, my mother Micky Rubenstein passed away.
She was mother to three sons (Forrest, Michael and Sam), wife of 70 years to one husband (Dr Stanley Rubenstein), grandmother to 8 grandchildren (Melinda [Scott Fridkin], Aliya, Daniel, Emily, Anna, Simon, Sydney and Max), great grandmother to 2 wonderful great grandchildren (Hudson and Sloane), and “Aunt Micky” to multiple generations of teenagers and young adults in Birmingham and across the southern region of BBYO.
She was instrumental in helping rescue Soviet Jews in the 70’s and relocating them to Birmingham and helping them establish new lives here.
She was also one of the initial proponents of the senior adult program at the BJCC and she and her older sister Elaine helped establish the program.
There is not enough space in this post to list all of her accomplishments or to mention all of the individuals whose lives she touched and improved.
Her life‘s work was to help others whether it was her husband, her children and grandchildren, or strangers she had never met.
She was an incredible role model for all of us, even though few of us were able to come anywhere close to her level of accomplishments.
There is no need to say RIP, because she was tireless and will never rest. She will just continue her work on a higher plain.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Temple Beth-El at 2:00 PM.
