Smith, Matthew Lee, age 29 of Kimberly, was born on March 5, 1982 at 11:42 p.m. and died on March 8, 2011 at 11:42 p.m. He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, a Class of 2001 graduate of Mortimer Jordan High School, and a member of Hughes Memorial Baptist Church of Bradford. He was employed by Alabama Reclamation Company as a heavy-equipment mechanic. Matthew was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed attending various sports activities. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Neal and Elaine Smith of Alton. He is survived by his wife, Melanie, stepdaughter Allie, stepson Taylor and soon to be born daughter, Danica Gail; parents, Jeff and LuAnn; brother, Brett (Fred); niece Norabeth, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and a whole passel of friends whom he considered to be family. Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2011 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Bro. David Crowe of Hughes Memorial Baptist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to benefit his three children.
