I got to know mary when she bought Sophie her little dog. I use to own Sophie. I am so sorry to just now learning of  her death. Mary was a wonderful loving  person. My life is so enriched by knowing her.

Mary's mother Mamie Troncalli Nappi was the sister of my grandfather Frank Troncalli.  He died when my own mother was a young child. Mary's father John was a wonderful tailor, trained in Italy and who insisted on hand sewing every stitch of the beautiful suits he made for Birmingham's elite. Aunt Mamie and Uncle John were my godparents.  Mary loved jazz music and as I recall, she played trumpet at Phillip's High School. Uncle John also played trumpet. Uncle John's brother was the famous Birmingham musician Bill Nappi. As was the custom of Italian immigrants at the time, the parents sacrificed to give  all of their children an education in music. All of the Troncalli children played musical instruments or were vocalists. This love of music was passed onto Mary. She was kind enough to invite me and my husband Willard to the Concordia Club as well as to THE Club so that we could enjoy the music with her. Even though she was no longer physically able to dance, she enjoyed listening to the music.  I will miss her very much. There is a famous saying: "When an old person dies, a library burns".
