Mary Mattie Lou Pate Holt of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 93. Lou, to her family and friends, was the true “Southern Lady” who always made you feel loved and welcomed. She was always very gracious and kind to anyone she had just met or to those she had known for many years. Mrs. Holt was a longtime (since 1951) member of Huffman Baptist Church where she and her husband Howard had served in many capacities. She enjoyed gardening to the fullest. Her yard was envied by everyone, flowers always blooming, nothing out of place, and God blessed her by letting her work in it up to the day he called her home. Mrs. Holt’s greatest love was her family. She was so devoted and very proud of her sons, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and often spoke of their involvements and accomplishments with joyful pride. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Holt was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Howard Holt, Jr; a brother, Thomas C. Pate; sisters, Ruth Smith, Ruby Parham, and Doris Nell Hutt. She is survived by her sons, Michael H. Holt (Laura) and Patrick H. Holt (Roseanne); her daughters, Linda Lou Holt ( Joe McElroy) and Mary Ann Holt Davis (Bob); three sisters, Alice McJenkin, Roberta Moses, and Lois Banks; her grandchildren, Leslie, Alison, Lauren, Marisa, Mary Katherine, Blue, Holt, Lillian, Isabella; and her many great grandchildren.
There will be a family only graveside service held on Wednesday, May 6th at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
