Mary Anne Boswell Givens, 94, passed away on November 26, 2020. She was born on August 12, 1926. She was raised in Ensley Highlands and graduated from Ensley High School. She attended Howard College where she met the love of her life, Wendell Givens. They married September 7, 1946 at Ensley Baptist Church and were blessed with 60 wonderful years together.
In 1963 she added employment to her roles of homemaker and mother. Upon retirement she became a volunteer in the gift shop at Montclair Hospital where she gave more than 20,000 hours earning an award for most hours of service. She also loved spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Huffman Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wendell O. Givens, and her parents, Roscoe and Ethel Boswell, her brothers Charles, Jack and Bill Boswell and her sister Mildred Rawson. Her survivors include her three daughters, Lynn Ray (Pat) of Trussville, Becky Freeman (Gaylon) of Montgomery, Texas, and Drew Willis (Clyde) of Trussville. Grandchildren are David Ray (LeeAnn) of Hoover, Todd Ray (Heather) of Brewton, Tyler Freeman (Bailey) of Cypress, Texas, Ashley Freeman of Bellaire, Texas, Katie Willis of Birmingham and Jackson Willis (Paige) of Daphne. Great grandchildren are Andrew and Caleb Ray of Brewton, and Hannah and Haley Ray of Hoover. She also leaves behind beloved nephews and nieces as well as many friends. She will be remembered for her kindness and love for others. She was the best mother ever. In her words, “I had a great life!”
Her family appreciates the staff at St. Martin’s in the Pines and acknowledges the good care given to our sweet mother living in Cottage “B”. We give a special thank you to Lynda Tolbert, Peggy Alexander and Kim Wright.
Due to Covid19, the graveside service will be private, directed by family. Her family suggests memorials to Helen Keller Foundation, Big Oak Ranch or Huffman Baptist Church.
