Mary Diamantakos passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2015. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 7, 1928. Mary was a graduate of Phillips High School. Mary was predeceased by her parents, George and Eleni (Mourtzikos) Diamantakos, her brother Jimmy Diamond and sister, Liliie Diamantakos. She is survived by her sister Phyllis D. Ellard of Birmingham, Alabama; brother John Diamantakos of Birmingham, Alabama; niece, Maria Ellard White (Terry) of Birmingham, Alabama; grand-nephew, Jonathon Casey White of Dallas, Texas; nephew, George Lee Diamond (Leslie) of Dallas, Texas; and grand-nephews James Austin and William George. Mary was a life-long member of her beloved Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Service minded, she was an active member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and AT&T Pioneers. She served her church joyously in many capacities and especially loved working at the annual Greek Festival. Outgoing and fun loving, Mary was an avid sports fan and followed Alabama football passionately. She retired from South Central Bell after 37 years of service to spend more time with her family whom she loved with her entire heart and soul. Her family would like to thank her loving caresitters, Christine, Debra, and Cherita, as well as Compassus Hospice. Visitation will be held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Monday, December 7 from 5:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m., followed by the Trisagion Prayer Service. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The interment service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Father Paul Costopoulos will officiate. Mary’s family request that you consider making donations to either the Greek Orthodox Cathedral or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
