Martha Jane Roby, age 87, passed away at home on June 25, 2023, after an extended illness. Jane is now with Jesus, is completely healed and at peace! She was a devoted and loving wife of 68 years to William Carl Roby, her high school sweetheart. Jane graduated from Tarrant High School. She married Carl on April 25, 1953, at Keesler Air Force Base before Carl entered the US Air Force during the Korean War conflict. After serving in the Air Force, they moved to Auburn, AL where Carl went to college like so many veterans, on the GI Bill, at Auburn University and Jane worked in the Dean’s offices as a secretary. They very much enjoyed their time at Auburn and made lasting friendships there. Carl was supposed to graduate in December 1959, but Jane told him he had to graduate and get a job because they were going to have a baby the following year. They began their family in Birmingham, AL with their first daughter and two years later added a second daughter. Jane was a homemaker and supported her family with love in every way. She was a woman of strong character, great wisdom, many skills, and great compassion for others. She taught her family through her example, integrity and resourcefulness.
Jane enjoyed playing the piano and organ, singing in the church choir and her ladies trio group in her young adult years. She also enjoyed teaching Children’s Choir, working in VBS and Sunday School ministries. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Center Point and Woodmont Baptist Church, serving both churches throughout her lifetime. She was also an expert seamstress, enjoyed ceramics, and enjoyed completing many projects with Carl during their marriage. They were a good team and enjoyed their accomplishments together. She loved a good game of baseball in the backyard with her grands and working puzzles and reading books with her great-grands. She loved and served God and her family with excellence and leaves a legacy of love and memories until we are all united again.
Jane was the first born to her parents, Mary Grace Erwin Littleton, and Paschal George Littleton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Carl Roby.
She is survived by her brother, Harry Littleton (Teresa); two daughters, Sherri Rosser (Randy); Lisa Williams (Tony); four grandchildren; April Williams (Denny), Matthew Crauswell (Hadassah), David Rosser (Katie), Carrie Almon (Andrew)and eight great-grandchildren; Carly Williams, Logan Williams, Chloe Williams, Luca Crauswell, Mary Katherine Rosser, Millie Rosser, Ian Almon and Ruby Almon.
