Feb 17 1938 – Oct 18, 2020 Maria Kritikou Sarris, known by many as Rika, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2020, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 17, 1938 in Leonidion Greece. She married George Elias Sarris on August 27, 1967 and emigrated to Birmingham, Alabama.
She worked alongside with her husband at the Barbeque King for 25 years and was part of the original Greek restaurant community. She was an extraordinary woman that wore many hats. Her passions were cooking, gardening, her faith and family. She enjoyed sharing her love of cooking with family and friends until the day she died. She was an integral part of raising her four grandchildren and mentored them in their daily lives. We have been beyond blessed to have a Greek mother and Yiayia that was the Matriarch of our family. She was a simple woman that led a rich life.
Survivors include her children: Son, Louie Sarris; Daughters: Dora Sarris Cothren (Eddie); Debbie Sarris Owen (Larry) and her four grandchildren: George Sarris Cothren; Cleo Anastasia Sarris Cothren; Arianna Maria Sarris Owen and Estelle Evangelia Sarris Owen; her sister, Lilika Alfatzi in Athens, Greece and host of loving nieces and nephews in Greece and in Birmingham.
