Mack was Dad to 3 daughters; Vicki Thomas (Bill) of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Lori Phillips (Randy) of Deltona, Florida and Patti Black (Doug) of Birmingham. He was Pawpaw to 7 grandchildren; Lesli Hutson(Cory) of Gainesville, GA, Leah Umbehant(William) of Hoschton, Georgia, Lauri Springer of Daytona Beach, Florida, Chole and Ashton Phillips of Deltona, Florida, and Anna and Luke Black of Birmingham. He was also Pawpaw to 5 great-grandchildren; Baylee and Brody Hutson of Gainesville, GA and Meredith, Will and Henry Umbehant of Hoschton, GA. He was Uncle Mack to many including Scott Boatwright and Brian Boatwright of Southside, AL and Paul Wood of Alpharetta, GA and Bruce Wood of Ellington, CT.
Mack was a man of few words. His actions showed that he was a hard worker, a good provider for his family, and a faithful caretaker for his wife, Ann, until her death in 2018. He enjoyed playing golf, but was happiest when he was doing yardwork, making repairs around the house, working on his computer, or putting the newspaper in order for the garbageman. He had a good sense of humor (if you listened closely) which came in handy when we celebrated his birthday every day of our father-daughters trip to Washington State and Oregon.
He was a solider in the U.S. Army and a graduate of the University of Alabama. He and Ann called Tuscaloosa home for more than 40 years while he worked at B.F. Goodrich. Mack was a long time member of Alberta Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.
We are so thankful to the staff at Kirkwood by the River for the love and care shown to our Dad. Richard, Claudia, and Lena, it's clear that you have a calling not a job. We are also appreciative of Dr. Speigel, Pam and Blake with Signature Healthcare and for Nurse Lisa and Nurse David with Comfort Care Hospice.
Mack would not want us to make a fuss, so a private family graveside service will take place at Forrest Cemetery, 700 S. 15th Street Gadsden, Alabama on Wednesday February 10, 2021 at 11:00 am.
