Lura is preceded in death by her loving husband Clarence E. McBride, Sr. (“Mac”) whom she worked with for many years building and operating Colonial Freight Systems, Inc. Lura & Mac were true entrepreneurs. They weren’t afraid to take on any challenge as long as they had each other. At one point, they bought a fleet of small planes and Lura was giving flying lessons. She was also preceded in death by her brother John H. Hill and wife Merle and her sister Daisy Davis and husband, Curtis. Lura loved spending time with her family, telling stories and singing gospel hymns. Lura was blessed with wonderful caregivers, lead by Rachael, Karen, and Jennifer, with the assistance of Bobby Boling who made it possible for her to stay in her own home during her last few years.
Lura is survived by her daughter, Janie M. McBride and son, Thomas W. McBride and wife Ruby. She has five surviving stepsons, Bill McBride and wife Janice, Carl McBride and wife Iris, Phillip McBride, Clarence McBride and wife Jane, Lawrence McBride and wife Eva and one deceased stepson Robert E. “Bob” McBride and wife Millicent “Millie” (both deceased). Her grandchildren include Joe McBride and wife Kim, Steve McBride, David McBride, John Bradford McBride and wife Marcela, Peter McBride and wife Aundrea, Anne Dolbier and husband David, and Misty McBride. Her great grandchildren include Keelin McBride and wife Darriene (great-great grandson, Malakai), Jennifer McBride (great-great granddaughter Ava), Missy McBride, Harmony McBride, Sierra McBride, Dylan McBridewood, Ian Dolbier, Katherine “Katie” Dolbier, Aiden McBride, Ily Busalacchi and Celia McBride and grand daughter-in-law, Ashley McBride. She has two nieces, Joan McCain and husband Larry (deceased) and Susan Hill. She also has a host of step grandchildren and step great & great-great grandchildren that she loved dearly.
The family will receive friends at Click Funeral Home, Farragut Chapel at 11915 Kingston Pike, Farragut, TN on Sunday April 2, 2023 from 4-6pm. On Wednesday, April 5, 2023 the family will receive friends at Johns-Rideout Mortuary-Elmwood Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. located at 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL.
