Louis Noland Townsend

Our mother, Louis, was one of the strongest, most courageous, and kindest women to ever walk this earth, and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. Louis graduated from Goucher College in 1952 with a degree in philosophy.

After graduation she moved to New York City where she met Philip Townsend, and together they went on to have three children. Louis was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her. She had a passion for bridge which she played faithfully with a large group of friends until recent years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal church in Birmingham.

Louis was predeceased by her mother Augusta Noland and father C. Powell Noland along with sisters Mildred Peake, Rosalie Gambrill, and Augusta Bell. Louis is survived by her three children Philip Townsend (Christina), Powell Townsend (Suanne), and Virginia Shortland (Buzz), nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday December 27th at 11:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery, 600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211.
