Lorraine Ruth Irvin, 94 of Vestavia, AL passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at home surrounded by family. Lorraine was born on April 23, 1927 in Oak Grove, AL to the late Robert and Alice Snider. Lorraine was a loving mother, grandmother (MiMi) and great grandmother (Buzz). She loved her family and friends with her whole heart. She was a homemaker and showed the people she loved by cooking great meals and knitted many items that she gave to others. My parents were very active members at First United Methodist in downtown Birmingham and were members of the McDorman class for over 50 years where they enjoyed and were close to many friends. She served in different organizations in the church and was involved in the schools where her children attended. My parents loved to dance, play cards and be with family and friends.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her loving husband, of 66 years, Ralph Lee Irvin Sr., her sister Bobbie Vernon and brother-in-law, Jessie Charles Vernon, her brother Wayne Snider. She is survived by her son, Dr. R. Lee Irvin (Karla) of Mobile, AL and her daughter, Sherry Coker (Buddy) of Birmingham, AL. Also she is survived by her grandchildren Christy Coker Horner, Kim Coker Sexton(Blake), Carolyn Irvin and Kurt Irvin. Her great grandchildren Cason Horner, Grant Sexton, Luke Sexton, Anna Leigh Sexton and Samantha Ruth Sexton. She is also survived by her brother Bill Snider of Birmingham and her brother Kenneth Snider (Linda) of Albany, GA and nieces and nephews. Her caregiver, of almost 4 years, Shannon Collins, was at her side when she died.
Visitation will be held at 12pm on Sunday October 17,2021 with funeral to follow at Elmwood Chapel at 1pm. This is located at 800 Dennison Avenue S.W. Birmingham, AL 35211.
