Lola Virginia Shelby Thomas

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Eric) Bishop of Hoover, Alabama; grandsons, Brad (Christina) Bishop of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Greg (Melissa) Bishop of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Ozilene Cartee and husband the late Jack Cartee of Birmingham, Doris Williamson and husband the late Bill Williamson of Madeira Beach, Florida and sister Frances Shelby of Birmingham; brothers, Tom Shelby and wife Fredna of McCalla Alabama and Senator Richard Shelby and wife Annette of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Virginia was born in Fairfield, Alabama to Ozie Houston Shelby and Alice Skinner Shelby. On April 23rd, 1954 in Fairfield Highlands, Alabama Virginia married the love of her life, Edward “Mack” Thomas of Hope Hull, Alabama. Virginia and husband Mack spent most all of their working life at U.S.Steel in Fairfield. She attended Vinesville Baptist Church where Virginia taught Sunday school for many years and Mack was usher as they supported the church through the life of the church. She was a lovely lady who will be truly missed.

Family will receive friends Friday Oct. 12, 2018 from 1- 2pm at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. A celebration of Virginia’s life will follow at 2 pm. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Reverend Clayton Speed officiating.
