LINDA H. JONES was born on April 2, 1949 in Jefferson County, Alabama to the late Estelle Henderson Peasant and Charles Lewis Lee. She was the eldest child with three siblings. Linda grew up in the historic Rosedale Community of Homewood, Alabama. She attended Friendship Baptist Church in Rosedale as a child and remained a member during her lifetime. She was active in the church as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, Secretary of the Missionary Ministry, Director of the Singles Ministry, In-house Youth Counselor, author and poet. Linda attended Rosedale School from Elementary until 12th Grade. She furthered her education at Daniel Payne College and received a Master’s Degree and AA Certification from Alabama State University. She received a Certification in Administration from the University of Montevallo. She worked as a Guidance Counselor for 34 years until she retired from the Jefferson County School System. She was also a Student Teacher Supervisor at Samford University. Her other involvements include, Alabama Counselors Association, Alabama Education Association, Alabama Poets Society, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She was honored as 1996 Alabama Multi- Level Counselor of the Year and served as President Emerita of Arthur Shores Day. She was a poet whose works include Thine is the Power, Let Me Rap to You, Freedom Liberty, About Us, Dancing Francis, and Breanna & Friends. She was also a playwright and produced her first stage play, Echoes of Rosedale in 2018. Linda loved to travel and her favorite destinations included Paris, Jamaica, South Africa and Washington, DC. Preceding her in death were Charles Lewis Lee (Father), Jerremy Lotez Jones (Son), Kenneth Lewis Peasant (Brother), Kevin Patrick Peasant (Brother) , Estelle Henderson Peasant (Mother). Those who are left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted children: DeAcquelyn Jones, Shanae Lambert, Chelseá Sealey (Joseph), Lorenzo Jones Jr., Jonathan Jones; Sister: Leatrice Dunn (Darryl); Niece: Shanteé Featherson; Grandchildren: Jacquelyn Jones, Gerald Jones (Stephanie), Jayla Smith, Nyla Lyn Jones, Voe Elle Jones; Six great-grandchildren and a host of great-grand nieces, great-grand nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. She was a mother, sister, friend and gift to all that are within her angelic reach.
