Kathryn M. McWhorter, 92, of Birmingham, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude N. McWhorter, Sr; son in-law, Jim Maddox; and granddaughter, Ashley Wallace Jasman. Kathryn is survived by her children, Lynn Smith (Albert), Cindy Maddox, Lane Fletcher (Rick), and Claude McWhorter, Jr.; grandchildren, Stephanie Saxon (Jon), Katie Kingery (Ross), Paige Price (Erin), Adam Smith, Christina Camp (Nathan); 8 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great-grandchildren; and sister, Claudia Smith (Bob) of Lakeland, Florida.
Kathryn was born to Lewis and Lois Marston. She attended Phillips High School. Kathryn married Claude in 1958 and they raised 3 daughters and a son together in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, where they ran a Chevron service station. She enjoyed spending summers camping and boating at Wind Creek. After their kids were grown, Claude and Kathryn moved to Panama City, Florida, where she ran her own party supply and gifts store. She enjoyed playing the piano, square dancing, sewing, and traveling with their RV group, The Honey Bees. After retiring they moved back to the Birmingham area, where they were very active in their church, Calera Baptist Church.
A visitation will be on Monday, January 29, 2024 from 10-11 am at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel. A celebration of Kathryn’s life will follow at 11 am. Kathryn will be laid to rest beside her parents at Elmwood Cemetery following the service.
