On Monday, March 6, John “Jackie” L. Vaughn, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home in Greenville, SC. He was the beloved husband to Shirley R. Vaughn and father of Larry (Frances), Tommy (Sue) and Nancy (David).
He is survived by his wife Shirley, 2 children (Tommy and Nancy Eckhoff (David)), grandchildren, Will Eckhoff (Monica), John “Jack” Vaughn, (Neely), Joshua Vaughn (Andrea) and great grandfather of Glesni, Jasper, Jacob and Emily.
Predeceased by his parents, John Lewis, Sr. and Mary Vaughn, his loving and caring son Larry; sisters, Marthalyn McFarling and Margaret Hann and his brother, William Vaughn.
Jackie was born in Irvine, Kentucky and was appointed by the Governor of Kentucky as a Kentucky Colonel. Early childhood, he moved to Birmingham AL and graduated from Ramsay High School. He played football at Ramsay and there met his high school sweetheart, Shirley. They married and enjoyed 70+ years together.
Jackie made a career with ACIPCO in Birmingham in Machine Shop #1 for 44 years as first a machinist and then retiring as a Superintendent. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and friends throughout the US. He enjoyed gatherings with his friends playing cards, putting on skits and even doing some magic tricks.
His family will celebrate his life with visitation on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 10- 11AM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel 1500 Gadsden Hwy Birmingham, Al with his service beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Forest Crest Cemetery, Irondale, AL.
